Welcome to One Car Garage, in which I choose a manufacturer, and you decide one single vehicle that they make or made (no matter how old, no matter how exclusive) to live with for the rest of your life. This is your only vehicle, and all expenses are paid for, including price of entry, insurance, gas, etc.
Yesterday I had a tough time coming to a decision with !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Today though, will be one of the easier decisions I’ll make when it comes to One Car Garage. We’re going with Nissan.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Sometimes when I’m picking a car, I may have something in mind (like yesterday’s NSX) that I’d absolutely love to have, but I’m not so in love that it’s impracticalities make it worth the hassle of it being my only car. You can see where I’ve overcome this with a couple of my decisions in the past (RS200). When it comes to Nissan, I’m so in love with the GT-R that I don’t care that it has a small rear seat and not a ton of storage space. I don’t care that if I ever have kids, they’re going to be stuck crawling into the back seat for as long as they ride in the car with me. It’s just something we’re all going to have to live with, and dear jebus will it be glorious.

The R34 Skyline GT-R Z-Tune. Because R34 Skyline GT-R Z-Tune.

As a forever car I would say the newest gen Maxima. 4 Doors so it is family friendly and decent power when you mash it. I have the 2005 (6th gen) Maxima and the car is fun but man... it's ugly lol.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:05 |
|
240Z... hey, it's kind of a Nissan.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:05 |

More practical than the R35 with a large fraction of the ability, and that green.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:05 |

odd enough I would just pimp out an old Patrol over here in the states. Look about right?
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:05 |

I love the Juke-R.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:07 |

Although the GT-R is a great car, it's not something I can fall head over heels in love with. A 240 would be fun but that would only last for a little while, I need something I can come home to, something that will always be there with that pretty face ready to do whatever I want, I would want a Patrol.
In UN spec please.

Silly question!
But I would be perfectly happy with this too
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:09 |

Nissan Laurel with a diesel-engine. I would prefer a swap to the 3.3 Patrol engine, but a tuned 2.8 would do as well.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:09 |

What do you mean "kind of"? It's as Nissan as Nissan gets!
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:10 |
|
It's a Nissan Stagea with an R35 GT-R front clip.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:11 |
|
Well there was the Stagea…
I think this gtr version is fairly recent and just a one off
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:11 |

Yeah just found it, they did a good job molding it together though lol
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:11 |

If you want an S30 at least get a 432R
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:13 |
|
This is not a question.
The Datsun Z432 was a race-ready road car version of the 240z, which included a spoiler, fender flares for track slicks, and verticle exhaust tips. Most importantly, it had a DOHC 4v 2l I6 engine good for 160HP and was a dominant racecar at the time. Better than just gaining power, it lost over 200lbs by moving to the more powerful engine, and the whole car (already a featherweight) was lightened further. It isn't fast by today's standard, but at around 2000lbs, it would give a 1969 Corvette a run for its money. For comparison, it weighed about the same (or less) than a Miata, had 50% more power, and was available 20 years earlier.
By today's standards, it's not very fast. But it is still quick, rare, beautiful, and so absurdly expensive that I couldn't get a (almost equally loved) R32 if I had the option to get the Z432.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:13 |

Nah, it took over 10 years for the Z's with a Nissan badge to not suck.... oh wait ;)
Just screwing with you.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:15 |
|
IMO, it's better with an R33 or R34 GT-R front. The R33 front conversion is extra cool because the Stagea is technically an R33.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:15 |
|
Definately an R34 GTR.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:15 |
|
Supposedly there is still an R390, completely untouched, sitting in a Nissan Museum or Factory somewhere. It was built for Homogolation, but they couldn't find a buyer, so it was never sold.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:15 |
|
It would be cool for collection sake, but I wouldn't want to have to drive it all the time... not to mention it would be impossible to find parts for. I would rather just get a regular S30 and modify it without feeling like I was destroying history.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:16 |
|
Its actually a Stagea with a GTR front clip. It would be awesome with an engine swap, but it still has the stock engine, transmission and brakes.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:17 |

You should know my answer by now, but still:
1986½-1989 Nissan Fairlady 200ZR-I ("-I" as in slicktop) with an RB26DETT swap (making it a "260ZR").
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:18 |

Hakosuka Sedan GT-R
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:20 |
|
Those 2.8 diesel engines are almost worth their weight in gold here in the US. Or at least, the crankshafts are. It's the only way (outside of a custom made part) to make a 3.1l stroker L motor.
So... uh... if you're not going to be using that 2.8... can I have it?
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:24 |
|
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think they ever made a Hakosuka GT-R sedan. They made a regular sedan, and a sport version called the 2000GT-X, but they didn't share very much with the GT-R. The GT-R and other trims were 2-door only.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:24 |
|
I think they couldnt bring themselves to part with it.
I also want this:
Before the 458, before the s2000, a freakin Sentra Hatch had the highest HP/L output NA engine.

Yupp, without a doubt.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:27 |

Nope, there's nothing production about it. It's just some tuners who chopped up an R35 and a Stagea and welded together what they were left with.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:29 |
|
Never believe someone named Eric... now have fun tuning THREE carbs rather than the already PITA two.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:29 |

Yup, that's correct.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:30 |

Like GhostZ said, there was no Hakosuka GT-R sedan. In fact, there's never been a production four door GT-R.
The 2000GT-X is said to be pretty nice though, just not as nice as the GT-R.

I didn't forget, I just repress it until it is no longer part of my reality. To be fair the Nissan name has been used for what, over 80 years? It just didn't count until they finally killed the Datsun name off which had been around since almost 20 years before that. If they hadn't killed Datsun it would have been 100 years old next year.

I didn't think it was production but I really thought it had the GTR drivetrain. Turns out it doesn't :(
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:35 |

S.U.'s are so easy to tune! I used a smog machine to tune mine under load on a dyno, so simple. Only problem was slight vac leak at the throttle pin bores I had to compensate for. I had just put electronic guts in the dizzy and it ran so good, had fresh bushings and shocks too. Was stolen next morning.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:35 |

If you're going to use that angle, you should call it DAT and not Datsun, that's the oldest name of the company.

Done. New desktop.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:43 |

Round tops? The most annoying part is when they get old they don't hold a tune for crap until you rebuild them... then they are great until they wear a bit. I also hate the brass fitting wearing on the throttle bar that makes them stick when opening.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:44 |

DAT it is... I will now have DAT S30 and you can have DAT Z32.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 14:52 |

The first and second generations (WC34 Series 1 and 2) more-or-less had the exact same engines and RWD/AWD drivetrain options as the Skyline, with the limited production Autech 260RS Version being a GT-R in all but name. It had several RWD and AWD trims, with the RB20E (no D means SOHC, so it was pretty weak) and RB25DE available in the base RWD models and the RB25DE and RB25DET being available if you optioned for AWD.
The later 2001-2007 M35 (which is the one in the picture) was powered by various VQ series V6 engines, ranging from the N/A VQ25DD to the N/A VQ35DE and the turbocharged VQ25DET.
It's all on Wikipedia, actually.

Sparf got that JDM knowledge yo! Thanks though that cleared some stuff in my brain up. While its not a GTR wagon, its still really damn cool.

Nah, I'm just one of those weird people who actually enjoy reading Wikipedia articles, and often complement them with more dedicated sources of knowledge.
In this case I based most of it on what I've read on the Wikipedia page.

Yeah, I had a '71. I rebuilt the carbs with his kit http://www.ztherapy.com/navbar/home.ht…
![]() 09/05/2013 at 15:13 |

Yep, back when they had the good SUs. My 71 wasn't bad, but this 73 was less than ideal... so I ripped it's guts out in favor of a fuel injected modern engine. Interestingly enough, I actually have been down to the Z Therapy shop and had them help tune and rebuild carbs for my 71 back in the day. Nice people.

According to Wikipedia it was available as a sedan. "The first Skyline GT-R, known by the internal Nissan designation PGC10 , was released on February 4, 1969. It was available originally as a four-door sedan after a public debut at the October 1968 Tokyo Motor Show . It was advertised alongside the Nissan R380 racecar to showcase the Skyline's racing heraldry. It was equipped with the 2.0 L DOHC S20 I6 producing 160 hp (120 kW) at 7000 rpm and 177 N·m (131 ft·lbf) of torque at 5600 rpm. Power was delivered to the rear wheels by a 5-speed manual transmission . The first Skyline GT-R rode on a semi-trailing arm strut suspension. It was available as a coupe in March 1971 with the chassis code KPGC10 ."

I was actually going to do a Rebello stroker, but I decided I want this car to be my new DD, so I'm going with an SR20DET. Better parts availability, easy to make power from, and moved the weight distribution back significantly. I also looked at doing an RB26DETT, then getting the HKS kit for it later on and making it an RB30, but it would not really get the feel I was looking for. I started the project after having an S2000 and wanted to make a "better" S2000 for the price of the one I had. I don't know if it will be better, but it will be a lot more powerful, lighter, as good balance, have better brakes, and look classic.
A buddy is doing a VH swap into his Z32. We are going to go race back to back when it's done to compare the builds.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 15:34 |

Oh crap, I completely forgot about the PGC10! I guess it goes to show that I'm actually not that big of a Hakosuka nut.

As much as I'm impressed with all the tech in the GT-R, I'm a bit of a RWD elitist. That being said, I'd definitely go with the R390, even though Godzilla would surely beat it in every quantifiable performance measurement.

Why not have your cake and eat it, too? Have the R33 GT-R Le Mans. The only RWD road-goaing GT-R since the Kenmeri.

I was shocked how cheap the VH45DE engines had gotten. A few hundred bucks and you can get a decent 4.5 liter, fuel injected, V8 with potential now a days. Makes me really question people who drop carbureted Chevy 350s into their Zs now.
